Prize Giving and Speech Day
This was a very formal but glamorous occasion held in the Grand Ballroom of The Club in Bukit Utama. Each class awarded prizes for best students in Literacy and Numeracy, and there was a Headmaster’s Award for outstanding effort.

Sports Day 2010!
Field events were the first agenda for the day. It was organized in the form of a circuit where classes spent 15 minutes on each station moving in a clockwise direction. We had four stations in total: jogging, throwing, jumping and tossing.

Earlier, the sky was a looking a bit cloudy. However, the rain held and the weather was perfect: cool and bright.

The Crowds Come Out for the Summer Fair
The BSKL Summer Fair was a huge success. Hundreds of people crowded the school to buy, be entertained and have fun. An array of vendors sold some high quality items and our classes created some excellent stalls from ping pong challenge, hunt the treasure....

Swimming Gala
Our annual swimming Gala was held on May 7th. The first event was the 26m Backstroke. The Referee explained the rules and students readied themselves in the water. "Ready, Set, TOOOOOT!!!". Bodies kicked and paddled as the audience cheered. "COME ON!"...

Book Week
Book week was a resounding success with the classrooms being transformed in the surroundings of a book or author. Our teachers imaginatively created activities from across the curriculum and we were visited by author and story teller, John Row who gave workshops and presentations...

Launch of Events & Fund-Raising Committee
We are delighted to announce the formation of our Events and Fund-Raising Committee (EFC). Our initial meeting was held last Friday and all officers were elected, with the exception of a chairman so a vacancy exists there. Anyone interested should contact the Headmaster to discuss the role. The EFC has been formed to encourage more parental support, to assist BSKL with fund raising efforts, and to build a strong sense of school community.

Earth Day
As part of our Science topic on Water in Mr Kirkham’s class, we have looked at what we can be doing to help preserve the water that is naturally recycled here on Earth. Through studying the Water Cycle we have recognised the importance of protecting the world we live in.

Splash Day
Foundation had a fantastic morning in the baby pool for our annual Splash Day on Apr 22 (Thursday). Students were quickly changed thanks to the help of 8 additional swimming instructors present for the occasion. Boys and girls eagerly awaited by the poolside in their suits, goggles and caps as they were briefed on safety rules. As soon as that was done, we were off to the pool.

Chinese Writing Competition
The BSKL Chinese writing competition was one of the highlights of term 2. The competition put the writing skills of Key Stage One and Keys Stage Two students to the test. After some excellent work by the students, judges were faced with the difficult task of choosing the winners.

Residential Trip to Borneo
As part of our ‘activities week’ nineteen children, from Mr. Kirkham’s class and Mr. Johnson’s class left the school for a residential trip in Borneo.

The Physical Education Programme has been busy of late with general skills, swimming, golf and other sports and activities keeping pupils active.

Golf Begins at The British School
The school has started a very exciting initiative by offering Golf lessons in After School Activities. The programme is a a 4 week 'taster' and will be offered for the whole term in Summer.

Science Day
Last week saw BSKL's first ever Science Day!

We started off with a great show from the Mad Science gang who amazed us with Carbon dioxide gas and old fashion smoke machines.

Chinese New Year Performances
The Chinese New Year Assembly kicked off perfectly with the emcee - Nairne who spoke in Chinese. The story was about the monster called Nian. The show had laughs, joy, fear, solidarity and in the end a happy ever after.

BSKL Idol
BSKL Idol stormed onto the platform of 2010. We had well over thirty performances to start the show, consisting of dance, singing, instrumental playing, story telling, comedy and other eccentric acts such as crazy bubble making!

The British High Commissioner's Scholarship
Once again we are accepting applications for the British High Commissioner's Scholarship. The annual scholarship is open to Malaysian students who show potential for academic excellence and who would otherwise not be able to afford the fees.

After School Activities Resume
The After School Activities programme will commence again on the 27th of January. Some activities have a maximum number of attendees which will be offered on a ‘first come first served’ allocation so make sure you get in quick for your preferred options.

Back to School
School resumed in a very a brisk fashion on the 11th January with 35 new students joining us. The children returned refreshed and eager to continue the hard work of last term. We welcomed our new Year 2 teacher Nia Williams to the school, as well as new Teacher Assistants Verity Smith and Roslyn Smith. We are particularly pleased to welcome Miss Nural Hidayah, who is going to lead our Bahasa and Islamic Studies curriculum.

Foundation Christmas Concert
The Foundation Stage children put on a delightful Christmas Concert dressing up as Reindeers and Angels and delighted the many parents present with their singing. All the songs were Christmas related with “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” being sung in both English and Mandarin. A particularly popular song was “When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney” and the children belted out “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. Well done to the Foundation team for putting on such an entertaining concert which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

The Stars Come Out For Christmas

Inter-House Football Tournament
The first inter-house football tournament was on November 26 with matches played in a round robin format. Our referees for the afternoon were Mr. Kirkham, Mr. Johnson, Mark and Liam (Football ASA). Parents turned up in full force...

International Day
The school held its International Day on the 23rd of October. Every classroom became a country for the day with activities which allowed the children to explore each of a number of countries. Children and adults dressed up in their national costume or adopted a country. It was great fun and provided a fantastic learning opportunity.
